Vegan Fabric 411 - Is Satin Vegan?

Posted on

Silk pillow cases are not vegan because they are made by silk worms. To get technical, 'The protein fiber of silk is composed mainly of fibroin and produced by certain insect larvae to form cocoons. The best-known type of silk is obtained from the cocoons of the larvae of the mulberry silkworm Bombyx mori reared in captivity (sericulture).'

Fabrics like leather, fur, and silk are NOT VEGAN. Vegan materials are often synthetic so be extra careful when shopping.

Satin pillow cases are made of polyester and therefore satin is vegan. However, the quality greatly varies based on the blend of the polyester. This is why so many satin pillow cases sold in stores and online are very light, ultra-shiny and often such a low grade satin; they actually feel irritating or like static against your skin and hair. You may also notice they slip off your pillow cases with can be especially irritating while you're trying to get some beauty sleep.

All Savvy Sleepers Satin Pillow Cases are a luxury anti-aging product and 100% Vegan. They feel like silk, but are more durable and ultra-soft while also being Vegan and not made from any animal products. We have 6 Shades available in both standard and King Size. Shop the collections below.

Hi there. I think your phrasing is very misleading and I hope you will consider correcting it. Satin is NOT VEGAN in all cases. Satin can include silk fibres and can also contain animal-derived dyes, so, while your satin may be vegan, you are really giving false information by telling vegans everywhere that satin products are vegan.
