DIY His & Hers Amaretto Sours with Pink Maraschino Cherries!

Posted on

Awards season is here and whether you have a 'date night' planned weekly or an Oscar party on the books later this month, we have a fun, romantic twist to add to the classic Amaretto Sour cocktail. It's one of our favorite unisex cocktails (we call it unisex because men and women both love it unlike a Cosmo or dark beer which can be more polarizing on date night.)
Here's the official Recipe according to - and our twist on it shown below in the photos...

'Pour the amaretto liqueur into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Add a splash or two of sweet and sour mix, and shake well. Strain or pour into an old-fashioned glass, garnish with a maraschino cherry and a slice of orange, and serve.'
Ordering a drink together can not only create a bond, it's also fun! And that's why when we spotted pink Maraschino cherries for sale, we had to share our take on the Amaretto Sour and our recommended booze, mixer and cherries...

1. What You'll Need - The Hard Stuff: We LOVE Disaronno. The classic and original Italian liquor is so tasty and when we found this limited edition Versace bottle of Disaronno, we couldn't resist. If you can't get Disarrono, go for an Amaretto Almond Liquor.

2. Next Ingredient... For the mixer, you'll need Sweet & Sour Mix. Stick to fresh lemons (if you like it really tart) or a sweet & sour mix made with Premium Lemon Juice. If it's lime or if the mix is too sweet, it will make the drink too sweet.

3. Garnish with Pink or Red Maraschino Cherries - We were so excited when we spotted 'Tickled Pink Maraschino' Cherries at Whole Foods made by Tillen Farms. They're 100% natural & Gluten Free too. Who Knew? More importantly they're SO cute and would look great in a Shirley Temple or on top of a ice-cream sundae.

Calorie Saving Trick - Amaretto Sours aren't exactly Skinny Girl Margaritas, but they're SO good. We used these mini-cocktail glasses (about double the size of a shooter glass) and plenty of ice. This drink isn't good unless it's chilled. Smaller glasses, plus using real lemons instead of the Sweet & Sour mix can definitely make them more calorie friendly!

Don't you just love the Pink cherries!? We can definitely clear a spot on our bar cart for these. Cheers to the 2016 Awards Season! PS - Our 'Flash Sale' is going on now if you need to stock up on our anti-aging luxury satin pillow cases. Perfect for an Oscar night slumber party!
